TOBA TEK SINGH / NAROWAL: One person reportedly died while citizens faced difficulties as rainwater accumulated on various roads during rains that lashed parts of the province on Saturday and Sunday.

In Faisalabad, a young worker died after a dilapidated roof of a factory collapsed on Jaranwala Road in Faisalabad on Sunday.

According to Rescue 1122, the dilapidated roof of a room in a factory caved in due to continuous rain. At the time of the accident, a worker was under the roof and died after being buried under the debris. Rescuers pulled out the body of the deceased identified as Waleed (18).

Commissioner Musarrat Jabeen toured Faisalabad city and reviewed the water drainage process in different areas after the rain. She tasked the Suthra Punjab Agency (SPA) to improve cleanliness and said that the quality of cleanliness on the roads should be improved.

A Wasa statement claimed that their staff remained active during the rain in different areas of the city.

The highest rainfall was recorded in Allama Iqbal Colony at 55mm. It said that rainwater was drained from the main roads and intersections using dewatering sets and other machinery.

Meanwhile, Narowal received an hour of heavy rain and one to three feet of water accumulated in roads and streets of the city and shops remained closed as traders protested against the poor performance of Wasa.

Water reportedly accumulated on Railway Road, Kachhari Road, Allama Iqbal Road, Makki Masjid Road, Girls College Road, Gulistan Zahra Road, Chan Pir Road, Eidgah Road and other major roads in the city.

Rainwater also entered homes and shops, and citizens faced difficulties in travelling around the city.

Citizens said that the recently completed sewage pipeline project had not yielded desired results.

They said that water remained accumulated on the Makki Masjid Road, Chan Pir Road and Girls College Road eight hours after the rain stopped as Wasa failed to make pre-monsoon arrangements.

Narowal Wasa Managing Director Muhammad Kashif was contacted for a statement but no response was received.
