LAHORE: The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) claims to have identified more than 170 vehicles using fake, cloned and tampered number plates through advanced AI-based technology during the past month.

According to a PSCA spokesperson, the Safe City automated alert system enables timely detection of suspicious, fake, and cloned number plates.

As soon as a suspicious or unregistered vehicle number plate appears within the range of Safe City cameras, the system automatically generates an alert.

Virtual patrolling officers immediately share the relevant information with nearby police units, ensuring prompt legal action, the spokesperson added.

He further stated that PSCA was continuously monitoring blacklisted, crime-linked, and other suspicious vehicles through advanced AI-based surveillance technology.

These modern digital monitoring systems assist law enforcement agencies in crime prevention and in tracking the movement of suspicious individuals and vehicles more effectively, he said.

He said altering, tampering or using fake vehicle number plates was a serious violation of the law and may result in the registration of an FIR and legal proceedings against the offender.

“Citizens are advised to ensure use of original and legally registered number plates on their vehicles and avoid any unauthorised modifications,” he said.

He emphasised that the PSCA maintains a zero-tolerance policy against fake and tampered number plates.
