Safaris are increasingly popular, attracting some of the 81m tourists who visited Africa in 2025, a record according to the UN, but it has affected wildlife, with the population of large animals in the Maasai Mara in south-west Kenya declining by 70-90pc over the past 40 years, as per The Economist
