Unlike Centre, Sindh announces four Eid holidays

KARACHI: While the federal government had announced a three-day Eid holiday — from May 26 to 28 (Tuesday to Thursday) — the Sindh government has officially announced a four-day holiday, including Friday, the third day of Eidul Azha, in its holiday schedule.

Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah issued a notification in this regard, stating that the Eidul Azha holidays would be observed from May 26 to May 29 in the province.

“The government of Sindh hereby declares 26th, 27th, 28th and 29th May, 2026 as public holidays on the occasion of Eidul Azha throughout the province of Sindh, for all government offices, autonomous bodies, semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils, except essential services and departments/offices engaged in preparation of budget for financial year 2026-27,” reads the notification.

The Sindh government has made a correct decision, and this time the federal government should follow suit. There was no need for the federal government to omit Friday from the Eid-ul-Azha holidays. A working Friday is always considered by government employees as a half-day, and most offices close before Friday prayers. Therefore, making Friday a working day when it falls in between the Eid-ul-Azha holidays and the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) serves no real purpose. I request the federal government to also declare Friday as a public holiday so that people can properly meet their loved ones and take complete rest after sacrificing animals.

So, on one hand federal govt wants people to shut down everything as early as possible and on the other, they are trying to look workaholic by not giving 4 days off... It's almost a weekend and they think people are dieing to work on Friday after three days holidays....

PPP, the ruling party since at least last 16-years in the great province of Sindh, Islamic Republic of Pakistan has announced four holidays in the Sindh province. However, being a strong coaliation partner of the ruling class at the Federal level in Islamabad, why can't they convince their partners in the Federal Capital and the adjorning historic city of Rawalpindi to declare Friday, May 29, 2026, as the fourth holiday in the country during the upcoming Eid-al-Adha 1447 A.H.?
