QUETTA: A division bench of the Balochistan High Court (BHC) comprising Chief Justice Muhammad Kamran Khan Mulakhel and Justice Muhammad Najmuddin Mengal extended the stay order against opening of the tender for demolishing the Balochistan Assembly building and also removed the chairman of the Balochistan Development Authority (BDA) from his post on Monday.
The bench heard a constitutional petition filed by Advocate Amanullah Kanrani and Haji Lashkari Raisani against the proposed demolition of the Balochistan Assembly building, which was constructed in 1985.
Advocate General Adnan Basharat and Additional Advocate General Shahak Baloch appeared before the court on behalf of the government and sought time to submit replies from the Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly and the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister.
BHC removes BDA chairman from his post
The court extended its earlier stay order dated May 4 and adjourned the hearing for an indefinite period. The court also directed that all proceedings related to the demolition tender of the assembly building remain suspended.
BDA chief removed
Separately, the same bench, after hearing a petition against the BDA chairman, ordered the removal of Javed Ahmed Khan from his post as the chief of the authority.
The bench directed him to vacate the office within 24 hours and return all official privileges.
The court further instructed the provincial government to appoint a new chairman in accordance with the law, observing that the current appointment was illegal.
It also remarked that such appointments were not commendable and noted that NAB inquiries were pending against the removed chairman.
