Wheat smuggling bid foiled

MIANWALI/ TT SINGH: An attempt to smuggle 590 wheat bags to KP province from Punjab was foiled by a Mianwali police at check post near Chashma on Sunday.

The police said check post Inspector Faiz Hameed Khan stopped a truck carrying wheat towards KP.

On checking, it transpired that truck driver was without any permit. Police seized 590 bags of wheat and handed them over to the Food Department of Mianwali.

The police arrested truck drivers Gauhar Khan and Asmatullah, hailing from Dera Ismail Khan.

In Nankana Sahib, food department inspector Muhammad Sajjad raided on Sunday a rice mills at Syedwala and recovered from its godowns 3,000 bags of hoarded wheat.

The godowns have been sealed.
