KARACHI: Two boys drowned in the Hub Canal in the Manghopir area on Tuesday, police and rescue officials said.

An Edhi Foundation spokesperson said that lifeguards recovered the bodies near the Hub Water Pumping Station.

The deceased boys appeared to be around 10 and 12 years old. However, their identities could not be immediately established.

Manghopir SHO Mohammed Khan Bohar said the bodies were found floating in the canal. He added that the canal stretches over 15 kilometres and that a protective net installed by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation had prevented the bodies from drifting further, where they were located.

Police said it remains unclear where the boys initially entered the water.

The bodies were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Officials said they are awaiting relatives to come forward for identification.
