LAKKI MARWAT/MOHMAND: The district administration destroyed the poppy crop grown on a vast land in the Bittani subdivision of Lakki Marwat district on Wednesday.

An official of the district administration said that the police provided security during the operation, while security personnel conducted aerial surveillance and route clearance with the help of modern technology.

He said that the local government department provided logistical and technical support for the anti-poppy drive.

“The poppy crop was destroyed in the Shadikhel, Alikhel and Adezai areas with the support of local elders and tribesmen,” he said.

The official said that the campaign would continue until the complete eradication of drugs.

He said that strict action would be taken against those involved in cultivation of the poppy crop.

Meanwhile, the Parang Ghar police in Mohmand tribal district carried out an operation against the cultivation of poppy, destroying crops spread over 52 kanals of land, officials said.

They said the operation was conducted on the directives of district police officer Raza Mohammad, and was led by SDPO Parang Ghar circle, Farhad Ali.

A police team comprising SHO Munsif Khan, SI Bakhtawar Gul, SI Khan Rehman and other personnel took part in the operation in Upper Parang Ghar, Umar Khel Bahlola and adjoining areas.

Police said the poppy crop cultivated on 52 kanals of land was destroyed during the operation.

They said the crackdown would continue as part of efforts to eliminate narcotics from the area.
