PESHAWAR: At least six people were killed, and two others were injured in a firing incident in Mangal village of Prova tehsil, police said on Wednesday, adding that a key suspect was later killed in a police encounter.

According to police, the incident occurred when unidentified armed men opened fire, resulting in multiple casualties. The injured were shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Prova for treatment.

Initial investigations suggest that the incident stemmed from a dispute linked to three motorcycles allegedly snatched on Monday night. The victims reportedly went to the area in search of the stolen motorcycles when they were attacked by rivals.

Station House Officer (SHO) Prova Samar Abbas said that the main suspect in the killing of six people, identified as Zulfikar Marwat, was killed later in a police encounter. He added that police had tightened the net around other suspects involved in the case.

The police also launched a search operation in the area; however, no further arrests were made, and officials said efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.

Earlier on March 15, two people were killed and a woman was injured in separate firing incidents in the Paharpur tehsil of Dera Ismail Khan.
