LAHORE: The Lahore Gymkhana Club is all set to go for its annual elections for 2026 on Saturday (today) with three panels in the field – “Monopoly Breakers”, “Reformer Panel” and the Salman-Misbah panel.

The club’s 5,600 members will elect their candidates in the elections.

The Salman-Misbah panel has fielded its 12 candidates: Salman Siddique, Wajid Aziz Khan, Mian Misbahur Rehman, Sarmad Nadeem, Mian Parvez Bhandara, Samaira Nazir Siddiqui, Sardar Qasim Farooq Ali, Khawaja Imran Zubair, Mian Waqarud Din, Shaukat Javed, Dr Najamud Din and Syed Yousaf Jamil Hussain Rizvi.

The ‘Monopoly Breakers’ panel led by Ahmad Nawaz Sukhera and Dr Ali Razaque fielded Tasneem Noorani, Kamran Lashari, Ziaur Rehman, Dr Jawad Sajid, Sheikh Aftab Arshad,

Tahir Raza Naqvi, retired Col Iffat Batool, Sumaira Maroof, Umer Javed Zia and Mian Ijaz.

The ‘Monopoly Breakers’ panel says its manifesto is to bring a “change” in the club leadership.

It also aims at fixation of tenures of the club’s chairman and committee, as well as bringing transparency in the award of membership, besides raising the quality of service.

“We say new people bring new energy and ideas and institutions become stronger with regular change of leadership,” panel’s member Tasneem Noorani told Dawn.

Similarly, the ‘Reformer Panel’ candidates are Qamar Khan (Bobby), Dr Shaheena Asif, Dr Qasim Lateef, Khurram Qureshi, Dr Shahid Raza, Naeem K Haq, Shafiq Ur Rehman, Taha Mahmood, Asim Raza, Zille Elahi, Naufal Khan and Shahid Nazir.

For the club’s survival and progress, Mr Bobby stated, the real strength lied with informed, aware and technically capable members.

It is healthy for the institution that the younger generation should come forward in full force, determined to secure a brighter and more sustainable future, he adds.
