GUJRAT: A former police constable, who was the prime suspect in a case of kidnap and rape of a transperson in the city’s A-division police precincts, was killed on Tuesday “in the firing of his own accomplices” in Lalamusa Saddar police limits.
A spokesman for Gujrat police says that the suspect, Naveed Inayat alias Mirza Chand, had been involved in at least a dozen criminal cases, including a recent case of raping a transperson, along with his accomplice, on Jan 21 the last.
He claims that the suspect was being taken to a place by a police team for the recovery of illegal weapons, when his unidentified armed accomplices opened fire on the policemen to free him.
As a result, the suspect was killed “in the firing of his own accomplices,” who managed to flee, the spokesperson says.
A case is being lodged against the attackers by Lalamusa Saddar police.
The spokesman adds that the deceased had been a former police constable, who was earlier convicted in a case of kidnapping, raping and killing the son of an overseas Pakistani living in Austria in May 2016.
The suspect was awarded the death sentence in that case by the session court, but was later acquitted by the high court.
He says that the deceased had also been involved in at least nine other criminal cases, resulting in his dismissal some years ago.
He says that Naveed’s co-accused in the case of rape of the transperson has also been arrested and a case (FIR No 13/26) has been registered against him under sections 375A, 376A and 392 of the Pakistan Penal Code, on the report of the victim.
arrested: The body of a three-year-old old missing girl was found at a deserted place in a town Dhonkal in the area of Saddar Wazirabad police and her paternal aunt turned out to be the killer.
The minor daughter of Ehtsham Ijaz Kalair had gone missing on Jan 24 from her Tanki Mohallah in Dhonkal after which the family launched the search.
A spokesman for Gujranwala police said the case was lodged on Jan 25 on the report of the child’s grandmother. He added that during the investigation, the paternal aunt of the girl was interrogated who confessed to have killed the child.
Police said they recovered the body and handed it over to the family after a post-mortem at the Wazirabad Tehsil Headquarters Hospital whereas.
The suspect was arrested and murder section was also inserted into the registered case.
A police official said the suspect had made a phone call to 15 to report the missing girl. The woman told the police that she had killed her niece for being the reason of the delay in her marriage as she used to call her ‘Mom.’
The people coming to seek her hand for marriage would go away, seeing that the child was attached to her. The father of the deceased girl had divorced her mother soon after giving birth to her and contracted a second marriage. The the suspect (paternal aunt) was assigned the task of his daughter’s upbringing.
