LAHORE: The Punjab government has directed the authorities concerned to ensure strict enforcement of the ban on kite flying along with strengthening price control mechanisms and accelerating action against ‘organised begging’.

The directives were issued during a meeting held at the civil secretariat on Wednesday.

The meeting reviewed measures related to the prevention of begging, enforcement of the kite-flying ban, traffic management and price control.

In order to improve monitoring of essential commodity prices, the meeting decided to increase the number of price magistrates. The chief secretary instructed deputy commissioners to ensure availability of flour, Roti and other essential food items at officially notified rates.

The chief secretary also ordered implementation of a new traffic management plan in major cities, noting that stricter enforcement of traffic laws had already led to a reduction in road accidents.

He reiterated that a zero-tolerance policy would be adopted against violations of the kite-flying ban, directing the police and district administrations to take firm action to ensure effective enforcement.

On the issue of beggars, the chief secretary instructed the authorities concerned to intensify the ongoing campaign and sought proposals to frame strict punishments for organised groups exploiting women and children for begging.

The meeting was attended by the administrative secretaries of the finance, social welfare, and food safety and consumer protection departments, along with other senior officials.

Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar, divisional commissioners, regional police officers, deputy commissioners and district police officers participated via video-link.
