RAHIM YAR KHAN: In compliance with the Lahore High Court’s orders and on the directions of the Punjab EPA director general, the RY Khan Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) launched a large-scale enforcement operation against illegal pyrolysis units.

Deputy Director EPA Aamir Rehmani told Dawn on Monday that the action dealt a blow to mafias involved in toxic air emissions.

He said enforcement teams demolished all unlawful pyrolysis plants due to persistent violations of environmental laws and the serious threat they posed to public health, sending a clear message that such activities would not be tolerated.

Rehmani added that businesses promoting pollution and endangering public health were unacceptable, and strict action would continue against those involved. Protecting the environment and public health, he said, remained the agency’s top priority.

The pyrolysis plant is a recycling machine that can convert waste plastic/tyre/oil sludge/coal tar oil to fuel oil.

The final product of the pyrolysis plant is mainly fuel oil (can be further refined into diesel), carbon black, and signal gas. (Steel wire for waste tyre).

The pyrolysis plant is a renewable and environmental equipment that deals with the waste and changes the waste into energy.
