Youth gunned down

SARGODHA: A 22-year-old youth was gunned down near Mari village on Tuesday allegedly over a long-standing enmity.

According to sources, Suleman was killed over an alleged enmity over a murder on the Sargodha-Bhalwal Road some time ago. The unidentified attackers shot the youth and fled the scene.

It is pertinent to mention that one of the deceased’s brothers was in jail in the said murder case and his elder brother was on bail.

The deceased was said to be living abroad and visiting the area.

The Jhal Chakian police shifted the body to the hospital and handed it over to the heirs after postmortem and were investigating the incident.

ELECTION ARRANGEMENTS: A meeting was held on Tuesday to review the administrative and security measures for the PP-73 Sargodha and PP-87 Mianwali by-elections scheduled to be held on Nov 23.

The meeting was chaired by Sargodha Division Commissioner Jahanzeb Awan and RPO Shahzad Asif Khan.

Sargodha Deputy Commissioner retired Capt Muhammad Waseem, DPO Sohaib Ashraf, Mianwali Deputy Commissioner Asad Abbas, Mianwali DPO Muhammad Ajmal, assistant commissioners and officers of the departments concerned attended the meeting.

The meeting was informed that 163 polling stations had been set up in PP-73, out of which 55 had been declared sensitive.

It was told that CCTV cameras would be installed at sensitive locations, while the polling material had reached the RO office. The election material would be sent to the relevant locations on Saturday along with the staff.

Mr Abbas said that 193 polling stations had been set up for the by-elections in PP-87 Mianwali, out of which 62 had been declared sensitive.

In the meeting, the DPOs of both districts gave a detailed briefing on their respective security plans. The officers were also informed about the transportation of polling staff, logistical support and safe delivery of polling material.

The RPO said that the safe delivery and return of polling material would be ensured at all costs. He directed that the election camps of the candidates should be set up at a fixed distance outside the polling stations to avoid overcrowding or any kind of dispute.

The Sargodha commissioner directed that all departments should ensure transparent, peaceful and orderly polling as per the SOPs of the Election Commission. There should be no shortage of special security and CCTV coverage at sensitive polling stations, he added.
