RAWALPINDI: The Anti-Terrorism Court on Wednesday issued show-cause notices to two police officers for submitting a bogus report regarding the non-arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan, while also reissuing a third non-bailable arrest warrant against her in a terrorism case related to the party’s November 26 protest.

Judge Amjad Ali Shah of the ATC issued notices to SP of Rawal division Muhammad Saad and DSP Waris Khan Circle Naeem, directing both officers to appear before the court on Friday for contempt of court proceedings.

The court observed that the officers had presented a “fabricated and misleading report” claiming that Aleema Khan had gone into hiding, despite videos circulating on social media showing her addressing the media outside Adiala Jail the previous evening.

Taking strong exception to what it termed a deliberate attempt to mislead the court, Judge Shah remarked the police officials’ conduct undermined the administration of justice and warned that departmental action could follow if their explanations proved unsatisfactory.

During the hearing, the court also issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Aleema Khanum for the third time over her continued absence, despite two earlier warrants.

The court confiscated her previous surety bond worth Rs100,000 and directed the surety to respond to a show-cause notice by Friday. It further ordered Ms Khan to submit fresh bail bonds amounting to Rs10.10 million.

In addition, the court seized short bonds of vehicles previously released on bail in the same case, amounting to Rs8.5m, and issued show-cause notices to respective sureties for their replies.

The court also directed Inspectors General (IGs) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan to ensure the seizure of four vehicles linked to the case and to submit a compliance report at the next hearing.

The case pertains to the Nov 26 protest organised by PTI, during which a case was registered against Ms Khan and others under terrorism and other criminal sections at the Sadiqabad police station.

Despite multiple court orders, Ms Khan did not appear before the court.
