KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has granted post-arrest bail to a man and his daughter in a drug trafficking case. Suspect Hanif and his daughter, Sana, were arrested in April within the remit of the Paposh Nagar police station for allegedly carrying 1.1 kilograms of hashish each and booked under the Sindh Control of Narcotic Substances Act, 2024.

The suspects, through their counsel, petitioned the SHC seeking post-arrest bail and after hearing both sides, a two-judge Constitutional Bench headed by Justice K. K. Agha granted them bail against a solvent surety of Rs300,000 each.

The petitioners’ counsel argued that as per record, his clients had been in custody for over two months. He said that only a charge sheet had been submitted and their indictment yet to be taken place.

The bench noted that “apparently both petitioners have been arrested by a joint memo of arrest and recovery and as per a judgement of the apex court, evidentiary worth of such memo may be next to nothing”.
