KARACHI: The Dawoodi Bohra community in the city celebrated Eidul Azha on Friday.

The day commenced with Eid prayers at Taheri Masjid in Saddar and their other jamaat khanas or community centres in the city such as Hasani Masjid in Clifton, Bohra Jamaat Khana in DHA Phase 8, Husami Masjid and Burhani Jamaat Khana in Hyderi, North Nazimabad and other areas. Special prayers were offered for the safety and prosperity of Pakistan.

Special security arrangements were made at all the Bohra mosques around the city, with large contingents of Sindh Rangers and police officials stationed outside.

The Eid prayers were followed by sacrifice of animals. Their meat was distributed among the underprivileged, as is the Bohra community’s practice of charity during Eidul Azha. Animal hides were also collected.

Special arrangements for removing animal waste and maintaining cleanliness on the roads were made by the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board.

Bohra community men in their traditional crisp and clean white attire, and women in their colourful traditional dress, the rida, with pretty embroidered or lace borders, were seen exchanging Eidul Azha greetings in areas like Saddar, Pakistan Chowk, Baloch Colony, Shabbirabad, Hyderi etc.
