KHUZDAR: A senior police officer and three others were killed on Friday when a speeding truck collided head-on with a car on the National Highway near Lasbela’s district headquarters Uthal, officials said.

According to details, a high-speed truck rammed into an oncoming car near a Pakistan Coast Guards checkpoint, about six kilometres from Uthal. The impact was so severe that all four passengers died at the scene.

Rescue teams shifted the bodies to the District Headquarters Hospital in Uthal.

The deceased were identified as Imran Ali, Ali Raza and Ramzan Ali. One of the deceased couldn’t be identified. All were reportedly residents of Quetta. After completing legal formalities, the bodies were handed over to the victims’ families.

The incident has cast a pall of grief over the area. Local residents have demanded strict action from authorities against speeding and violations of traffic laws.

“Accidents frequently occur on this road due to over-speeding vehicles,” eyewitnesses noted, underscoring an urgent need for stricter traffic control measures.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
