BAJAUR: Debris clearance work began on the landslide-hit road in the hilly Barang tehsil, says a statement issued here on Sunday.

“Clearance work on the Khar-Barang road, which was greatly affected by landslide debris owing to the recent heavy rains, has commenced in line with directives of PTI MPA Engineer Ajmal Khan after taking notice of the issue, which was causing significant disruptions to transporters and commuters,” the statement said.

The statement issued by the office of MPA Engneer Ajmal, who also belonged to Barang tehsil, quoted him as saying that he was very disappointed after coming to know that about 24km long road, the lone source of communication for the whole Barang tehsil, was affected by landslides debris for over a week.Local residents have welcomed the start of work on the road and urged the authorities to implement durable measures to prevent landslides in the future.
