GUJRAT: A Gujranwala court on Saturday convicted a suspect involved in raping an eight-year-old girl and awarded him life imprisonment.

Gujranwala Additional District and Sessions Judge Shafqatullah Khan announced the verdict in the case.

Apart from the life term, the judge also imposed a fine of Rs30,000 on Ali Raza.

According to the prosecution, an eight-year-old girl was raped by the convict in 2023 and a case was lodged against him with Khiyali police station.

A spokesman for Gujranwala police said effective investigation into the case had paved the way for the conviction of the accused.
