GILGIT: Four people were killed and 10 others injured in two separate incidents in Gilgit on Saturday.

In the first incident, a mother and her two children died and six family members were injured when the roof of their house collapsed.

Besides, a gas explosion in the house of a former Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) manager left him, his wife, and their two children with severe burn injuries. One child later succumbed to their injuries.

According to Rescue 1122, in the first incident, the roof of a house collapsed in Jagir Basin, Gilgit, on Saturday morning when 10 members of the family were sleeping in the two-room house.

As a result, a woman and her two children died on the spot, while six family members, including women and children, were injured. The injured were shifted to PHQ Hospital, Gilgit.

Assistant Commissioner Gilgit, retired Capt Adeel told Dawn that the house had become old and decrepit, and that the roof of the home collapsed at night between Friday and Saturday.

In another incident, a powerful explosion caused by a gas leak destroyed a residential house in Majini Mohalla on Saturday morning, leaving four members of the family of the former Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) manager Arshad Hussain, including his wife and their two children, with severe burn injuries.

However, due to the absence of a specialised burn centre in Gilgit, all four seriously injured family members were referred to a burns centre in Islamabad for further treatment.

According to police, the two-year-old child, who sustained severe burn injuries in the gas explosion, died while being transferred to Islamabad.
