KOHAT: A young man was shot dead near Shinwari graveyard in Janglekhel area, while body of another youth was found in Shadikhel area astride the River Indus in the jurisdiction of Bilitang police station here the other day.

The police said Farooq was shot dead by unknown assailants near the graveyard. The father of the deceased nominated unidentified persons for the murder.

The other man was identified as Saeed Anwar. The police registered a murder case because the body bore bullet wounds, according to the postmortem report.

Separately, the police and a union of 52 public sector schools signed a memorandum of understanding to provide free education to the children of martyrs, Ghazis and in-service policemen. The MoU was signed at the office of the district police officer the other day.

DPO Zahidullah Khan, who held negotiations with the school administrations before the agreement, said that the step had been taken for the welfare and wellbeing of the families of the policemen.

DC’S VISIT: The Kohat deputy commissioner the other day visited the government girls’ degree college, Darra Adamkhel, along with the assistant commissioner, where he checked the classrooms, cleanliness, quality of education, and teachers’ attendance. The visit was conducted under the Chief Minister’s ‘Awami Agenda’.

DC Abdul Akram Chitrali also planted saplings on the lawns of the college, and urged students, teaching and administration staff to actively participate in the plantation campaign for making the country green.

The deputy commissioner urged the teaching staff to further improve the educational activities in the college, and pay special attention to the tutoring, and training of children so that they could become better citizens.
