SUKKUR: Three armed clansmen shot dead their two rivals over an old enmity but were chased and gunned down soon afterwards in the Wada Machhi area of Khairpur district on Tuesday.

Officials at the Wada Machhi police station and residents of the area said that Aijaz, Qaimuddin and Mian Dad – belonging to the Narejo clan – riding a motorcycle shot dead Atiqur Rehman and Siraj Ahmed – belonging to the Solangi clan -- in Gagri village of the area and were trying to escape when chased and caught by other members of the Solangi clan. The Solangis gunned down all the three assailants, they said, adding that two other persons were wounded in the first attack.

Reports from the area suggested that armed men from both sides took up positions in their respective dwelling and were continuing to fire shots intermittently, causing panic and fear in the area.

Khairpur SSP Tauheedur Rehman Memon along with a strong police force drawn from different police stations rushed to the area to avert further bloodshed.

The area was cordoned off to prevent those involved in the clash from running away, the SSP said. A search for the killers of three clansmen was under way, he added.
