GUJRAT: Barricades on bridges and national highways were removed early Wednesday morning across Gujrat and Jhelum districts after five days since Friday last.

The law enforcement agencies started removing heavy containers after a direction from the interior ministry. These blockades were meant to stop PTI workers march on Islamabad for staging a sit-in at D Chowk.

The public, particularly commuters, as well as the trucks carrying commercial consignments had been the worst-affected.

The overseas communities traveling to and from Pakistan had to face an agony to reach the destinations. Sales at fruit and vegetable markets and petrol stations resumed.

The business fraternity of the region has urged the provincial and federal governments to chalk out an alternate strategy to tackle such long marches instead of resorting to road blockades.
