KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday disposed of a petition seeking whereabouts of a prominent businessman after it was informed that he had safely returned to his home in Lahore.

Last week, a petition was filed by the wife of businessman Zulfiqar Ahmed, the managing director of Paracha Textile Mills and Mezan Group, after he was reportedly abducted on July 23.

The Kalri SHO and investigating officer (IO) of the case appeared before two-judge bench headed by Justice Kausar Sultana Hussain and filed reports.

The petitioner’s lawyer submitted that Mr Ahmed was picked up in Karachi and found in Lahore.

The bench questioned whether it was a case of kidnapping for ransom and asked the IO to inform it about the investigation conducted so far.

The IO stated that nobody turned upon on behalf of the complainant party to record his / her statement yet.

The petitioner’s lawyer argued that at present, Mr Ahmed was not in a position to record his statement, but he will give his account later.

The bench also warned the SHO that he would be held responsible if such incident was repeated in future within the jurisdiction of the Kalri police station after the petitioner’s lawyer expressed apprehension that the businessman might be picked up again.
