LAHORE: The city district administration on Wednesday announced a plan to use AI traffic learning to tackle congestion on roads.

Commissioner Zaid bin Maqsood chaired a meeting on traffic congestion in the city. The district administration has decided to get help from AI traffic learning by Safe City cameras on five different points (roads) of traffic obstruction in the city.

Commissioner Mr Maqsood said that all the causes of obstruction in the traffic flow will be remedied by continuous AI traffic learning.

He directed Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) to remove all waste containers from the main roads in the first phase, to ensure smooth traffic flow.

He directed Traffic Engineering and Town Planning Agency (Tepa) and the district administration to remove illegal and unnecessary signboards from roads and footpaths of the city.

He also directed that action should be taken to identify illegal parking and traffic jams in the city with the help of Safe City cameras.

The commissioner was told in the briefing that town-wise removal of encroachment, illegal parking, and traffic awareness camps are working in the first phase.

He said that Tepa should check the lane markings on the traffic signals and paint lane markings as required.

He assigned the task of removing excess poles and boards from all the roads of the city and said that the traffic can be kept flowing in the city only under the practical traffic engineering plan.

Mr Maqsood further said that practical steps were being taken according to the clear instructions of the chief minister regarding comprehensive traffic interventions in Lahore.

He said a comprehensive plan is also indispensable for traffic education and awareness along with road and signal design changes.

He said there must be parking in approved areas of commercial buildings and officials should conduct the enforcement.

He said the traffic flow will be improved through road design changes, patchwork, signs, boards, tire killers installations.

Deputy Commissioner Rafia Haider, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Amara Athar, LWMC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Babar Sahibdin, Wasa Managing Director Ghafran Ahmed, The additional DG PHA, Tepa chief engineer and officers of Punjab Safe City Authority participated in the meeting.
