KARACHI: Body of a young man was found hanging from a tree in Surjani Town on Monday, police said.
The deceased was identified as 21-year-old Hasnain.
Surjani SHO Asadullah Agha said the body was found hanging from a tree in an empty plot in Kaneez Fatima Society, Phase-III. The mouth of the deceased was closed with a tape, he added.
The officer said they were sure that he was murdered somewhere and later on his body was hanged there. He was a resident of Hyderabad as identified from his CNIC.
The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Man, woman commit suicide
A man and a woman ended their lives in separate incidents in the city on Monday.
A newly-wed young man committed suicide by hanging himself in Manzoor Colony, police said.
Baloch Colony SHO Mohammed Naeem Rajput said 22-year-old Saeed Ahmed had married a woman three months ago. However, the woman had five children from her previous husband and Saeed was insisting that she drop the children to her mother’s or brother’s house.
It ensued a heated debate between the couple, after which Saeed ended his life by hanging himself from the window of his house with the help of a belt. The body was shifted to the JPMC.
Separately, a woman committed suicide in Akhter Colony.
Mehmoodabad police said that Maria, 30, ended her life by hanging herself in Sector-B.
The body was shifted to the JPMC. The motive could not be ascertained immediately.
Gangsters held for extortion
Police on Monday claimed to have arrested two suspected gangsters who had extracted Rs50 million bhatta (extortion) from traders of the old City area by using foreign SIMs.
City SSP Arif Aziz added that the police had arrested two suspects, Abu Bakr and Abdul Ghafoor Chohan, who were affiliated with a gang led by Wasiullah Lakho.
They had demanded extortion from a trader. They had come to the Napier area to receive extortion when the police arrested them.
The suspects had been extracting extortion from traders since 2020 and had collected Rs50m so far, said the officer.
The suspects used foreign SIMs to demand bhatta from traders of Timber Market, Garden and adjoining areas. They used to send the extortion money abroad through shopkeepers of Nawalane of Lyari. One held suspect, Abu Bakr, was also arrested earlier by Saddar police over charges of possessing hand grenades and arms and was sent to the jail as well.
