ROOT CAUSE: The decision to declare an education emergency in the country deserves to be appreciated. While it would be a good step to bring out-of-school children to schools, those at the helm of affairs would do well to find out root cause of the issue as well. Trying to improve a system without understanding the causes afflicting it will only make the effort futile. As I see it, hyperinflation is one of the main reasons that is forcing families to keep their children away from what happens to be their basic right.

PRE-MONSOON ARRANGEMENTS: Before the monsoon season, Tharparkar needs rigorous arrangements to store and make use of rainwater. The region, as is well known, is hugely dependent on rainwater for agriculture and everyday consumption. This water is surely not good enough for drinking purposes. The provincial government needs to take appropriate measures to construct check dams and install water purification plants to ensure easy access to potable water.

NO SIGNAGE AT CAMPUS: The University of Karachi has no signage across the campus, which makes it almost impossible for students and visitors alike to navigate their way towards an office or department. Without proper guidance, individuals struggle to locate essential destinations. The university administration must prioritise the matter and take immediate action in this regard.

RAKHSHAN BRIDGE: The Rakhshan Bridge in the Panjgur district of Balochistan has been in a dilapidated state for long, posing a significant threat to the commuters. The bridge serves as a vital link between Panjgur city and many adjoining towns. Owing to its deteriorating condition, the bridge might actually cave in soon. The relevant authorities need to initiate repair work on the bridge without any further delay.
