KARACHI: The body of a teenage domestic help was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a Defence Housing Authority house under controversial circumstance on Sunday evening, police said.

They police said that the body of Mariya, 16, was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

Darakshan SHO Irfan Asif said the deceased had been working as a domestic help at the Khayaban-i-Bukhari residence of a doctor for the last one year.

South SSP Sajid Amir Sadozai said that the house owner claimed that the girl had ended her life by hanging herself from a ceiling fan with a dupatta.

However, the SSP opined that the ‘circumstantial evidence’ created doubts and police were investigating.

He said that a legal action would be taken in the light of the findings of the autopsy.
