KARACHI: Three suspected robbers were gunned down in two alleged encounters in the metropolis on Sunday, police and rescue services officials said.

They said that a police patrol spotted some suspects near 4-K Chowrangi in North Karachi and challenged them. In an ensuing exchange of gunfire, two suspects were killed.

The police said that the deceased were identified as Muhammad Ahsan and Nazim Ahmed.

The police claimed to have recovered two pistols, mobile phones and one motorcycle from their custody.

A police spokesperson said in a statement that an encounter with suspected robbers had earlier taken place at the same location, in which Constable Moinuddin was shot and wounded.

A cell phone snatched from a citizen was recovered from the killed suspect. The citizen approached police and identified his phone.

In another incident in Orangi Town, a suspected robber, later identified as Bilal Muhammad, was gunned down in an alleged encounter in Mujeeb Goth while his accomplice managed to escape from the spot.

Police Constable Farhan Anwar, 25, also suffered bullet wounds by the firing of the robbers during encounter, the police said, adding that one pistol with rounds, mobile phones and cash were recovered from his custody.

The police claimed that the deceased had a past criminal record as there were more than 15 cases registered against him at different police stations.
