LAHORE: Government College University (GCU) former professor Syed Anjum Nisar passed away on Wednesday.

He was a teacher of English language and literature and was recognised as an authority on drama, classical and romantic poetry, and American literature.

Prof Nisar taught at GCU for over 33 years, serving as the head of the English department, registrar, and adviser to the GC Dramatics Club. He had been critically ill and hospitalised for several weeks.

His funeral prayers were offered at Jamiatul Muntazar, Model Town, and attended by a large number of faculty members and students. Later, he was laid to rest at the Firdousia graveyard.

He leaves behind a widow, three daughters, and a son.

GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Shahzia Bashir said the void created by his demise cannot be filled.
