BAJAUR: The district administration here on Sunday reopened Targaoo-Memola Road, which was blocked due to landslide triggered by the recent heavy rain, to traffic after six days.

“We are pleased to announce that Targaoo-Memola Road in the hilly Barang tehsil, which had been blocked since March 4 due to landslide, has successful been reopened to traffic after removing debris from its both sides,” said a statement issued from the office of deputy commissioner.

On the directives of Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Anwarul Haq, relevant officials along with required machinery visited the area and removed big stones and debris from both sides of the road to reopen it to traffic. The residents of the affected area had complained about the closure of the road a day ago.

The residents of Targaoo area had expressed dismay over the closure of the road, saying it connected several villages with other parts of the district.

The statement said that the residents of the area welcomed reopening of the road. The residents of the area also told this scribe by telephone that many sections of the road were reopened to traffic after heavy machinery removed scores of boulders and debris from it.

They expressed the hope that the entire road would reopen today (Monday) as clearance work was under way on its remaining parts.

PACKAGE: A local nongovernmental welfare organisation on Sunday distributed Ramazan food packages among more than 150 families in Bajaur tribal district.

In this connection, a ceremony was held in Sadiqabad town of Khar tehsil. The Ramazan food packages among the needy people were distributed by Dawoodkhel Welfare Organisation. The ceremony was addressed by DWO president Haji Akbar Jan, Malik Said Bakht, Zameen Gul, Haji Khan Badshah, other members of the organisation and several religious leaders.

They said that such food packages comprising essential items would be distributed among needy people across the district throughout the holy month of Ramazan.
