ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi on Thursday approved the appointment of three judges of the superior judiciary.

Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan has been appointed to the Supreme Court under Article 175-A of the Constitution.

The president also approved the appointment of senior-most judge Justice Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar as caretaker Chief Justice of the BHC, in accordance with Article 196 of the Constitution.

President Alvi also appointed the senior-most judge of the Lahore High Court, Justice Malik Shehzad Ahmed Khan, as chief justice in accordance with the Article 175 (A) of the Constitution. The appointment was made as former LHC CJ Muhammad Ameer Bhatti retired on Thursday after reaching the age of superannuation.

A formal sendoff was held in honour of outgoing chief justice at the Judges Lounge, wherein Chief Justice-designate Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan and other judges working at the principal seat were present.

Meanwhile, Justice Khan will take oath as chief justice on March 8 (Friday) at a ceremony to be held in the Governor House.
