KARACHI: A woman was run over and killed and eight other people, some of them waiting for public transport at a bus stop on Sharea Faisal, were injured when a fast-moving bus hit them on Friday, rescuers said.
They added that a tyre of the bus burst and the vehicle went out of the driver’s control, hitting a family riding on a motorcycle before ramming into the bus stop.
As a result, 30-year-old Masooma, who was riding the motorcycle as a pillion rider, was killed and her husband and two children suffered serious injuries. Five others, including four women, who were standing at the bus stop, also suffered injuries.
The victims were taken to hospital for treatment.
After the accident, the vehicular traffic was suspended on the main artery of the metropolis, causing a severe traffic jam on Sharea Faisal and adjoining roads. However, the traffic flow was restored later on.
Man shot dead
A young pedestrian was shot dead in Shah Faisal Colony on Friday evening, police said.
They added that Saudur Rehman, 35, was killed near a park in the area.
Area SHO Waseem Ahmed said that the victim was a resident of Metroville in SITE and a labourer by trade.
The police suspected some personal enmity as nothing was taken away from the victim.
The body was taken to a hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Body found
The body of a young man was found from bushes near Safoora Goth on Friday, according to police and rescue services.
Sachal police said the body of a man, identified as Shahzeb Riaz, 26, with gunshot wounds was recovered near Sumaira Chowk. It was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities.
