CHARSADDA: The district administration on Monday sealed a number of shops and arrested several shopkeepers for hoarding and profiteering.

Officials said encroachments were also removed from the main bazaar.

They said the crackdown was ordered by deputy commissioner Adnan Farid Afridi to ensure smooth supply of food items to consumers at official rates during Ramazan.

The officials said the district administration had also set up 378 distribution points across the district to ensure smooth supply of free flour to the deserving families.

They said the deputy commissioner had directed all the assistant commissioners and additional assistant commissioners to ensure smooth supply of food items to people.

They said Rs75,000 fine was imposed on several shopkeepers and over 15 shops were sealed for violating the official price list.

They said over 20 butchers had also been sent behind bars for profiteering.

WORKSHOP: A daylong workshop was organised at the District Headquarters Hospital here on Monday for medical officers and lady health supervisors to bring a change in their social attitudes to create a healthy society through effective communication.

United Youth Welfare Organisation in collaboration with Unicef and the health department organised the workshop.

Deputy district health officer Dr Mohsin Khan, EPI coordinator Dr Habib, Young Doctors Association president Dr Zeeshan and others were also present.

Unicef representatives said in today’s fast-paced era, people’s attitudes were also changing and that a change in social attitudes was necessary to create a healthy society.

Meanwhile, Charsadda tehsil mayor Mufti Abdul Rauf Shakir has promised addressing the complaints regarding distribution of free flour in the district.

He was addressing a meeting held here on Monday.
