KARACHI: A suspected robber, said to be a local government candidate of a political party, was captured by area people after he shot at and wounded a man over resistance in Baldia Town on Monday, police said.

The Madina Colony police said that armed muggers fired at Irfan Zaman, 40, when he resisted their robbery bid.

They said that area people gathered and got hold of a suspect, later identified as Muhammad Nadeem, and subjected him to severe beating and someone in the mob also shot him. However, police reached the scene and saved the suspect.

They said the mob was so charged that it was very difficult for law enforcers to save him from lynching.

The police said that the suspect had recently contested the election from the platform of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf for a ward councillor in Orangi Town.
