KHYBER: Police have asked all the Afghan families residing in the district to immediately register themselves with the nearest police station.

Officials said that all the Afghans were asked to complete the required procedure of registration in three days and added that legal action would be taken against those failing to register in the stipulated time.

They said the step was taken after a similar exercise was ordered throughout the province after the Peshawar Police Lines suicide attack.

Meanwhile, jail officials in Landi Kotal imposed a ban on female relatives’ visit to the sub-jail due to the absence of a female searcher. They said the ban would remain in place till a female searcher was posted at the sub-jail.

A number of the jail inmates and their relatives had objected to search of female visitors by male staff.

In another development, police in Landi Kotal seized a huge quantity of charas from a truck parked on the roadside on Wednesday.

Police said they conducted a search of the truck which was parked outside a restaurant near Charwazgai checkpost after receiving information of smuggling of the contraband from Afghanistan.

They said 160-kg charas was recovered from the secret cavities of the vehicle which had returned from Afghanistan. The driver or owner of the vehicle was not present at the time of police raid. The vehicle was impounded.
