RIDE ON BIKE

RIDE ON BIKE: With the high price of fuel, commute is a problem faced by one and all. While men in society generally have the option of using motorcycle rental services, it is rather irritating for women who also face the same challenges, but do not have the option of using such rental or sharing services owing to a variety of reasons. Commuting on a motorcycle driven by an unknown service provider makes them feel unsafe and insecure. Also, they face abuse and harassment during the ride itself.

It will be nice if a bike service meant for women and with women motorcyclists could be introduced to make things even in gender terms.

BUS ROUTE: The Sindh government has in the last few years launched a number of public transport initiatives in Karachi, like the Peoples Bus Service, the Green Line, the Orange Line and the Pink Bus Service. These are decent services that have made life easier for the commuters, especially students, officegoers and women. However, there is no bus service meant for the University Road due to which the students of University of Karachi, NED University and Dow University continue to face a lot of difficulties. The government should consider the matter urgently.

SEWAGE OVERFLOW: Overflowing sewage is a common problem in most Karachi localities, including Korangi Sector 48-B. I rarely remember a day when I have not negotiated an uncovered manhole spewing sewage, making the commute a despairing affair for one and all. Unfortunately, the conti- nuous overflow has not only damaged the roads, it has also affected life in general owing to stink in the air and the spread of diseases in the area. The relevant authorities should do something about the issue so that the area residents may heave a sigh of relief.
