GUJRANWALA: A fire erupting in the local Landa Bazaar near Sheranwala Bagh on Wednesday gutted dozens of shops and stalls.

District Emergency Officer Riffat Zia told the media that responding to a call the Rescue 1122 firefighters, along with fire engines and ambulances, reached the Landa Bazaar and started efforts to control the blaze.

He said the fire intensified because of the combustible material, including shoes, bags and clothes, stored in the affected sops.

He said to ensure continuous water supply during the firefighting operation, the nearby water filling point of the local fire brigade was also used.

He said it took the Rescue 1122 teams some two hours to extinguish the blaze and the cooling process continued for another hour.

He said 11 emergency vehicles, 40 rescuers and 8 firefighting vehicles participated in the operation.

He claimed that due to the timely operation by Rescue 1122 personnel, the fire was prevented from spreading to adjacent buildings.

The operation was directly supervised by Emergency Officer Operations Engineer Taimur Hassan Chattha.
