PESHAWAR: A security supervisor died in what is believed to be an ‘accidental fire’ at the University of Peshawar’s international hostel on Sunday, the police said.

The local police said that the area residents termed the incident as an ‘accidental fire’.

When contacted, the campus police officials told Dawn that Saqlain Bangash, a security supervisor for a private security company, was reviewing security on the campus when the incident occurred. “It is believed that it was an accidental fire. We are, however, investigating the case,” a police official, Liaqat Shah said.

He said pistol of a security guard, namely Masood, went off after it fell on the ground. He said the injured was rushed to a hospital, but he succumbed to injuries. The official said the accused had escaped the area.

The official said the campus police had registered a case.
