BOMBAY: A country-wide plot to assassinate top ranking Congress leaders and Ministers of the Indian Union Government has been unearthed by CID detectives of the country who had been working during the last week following the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.

Nearly 20 persons said to be Sikhs, Punjabis and Maharashtrians, who are alleged to be involved in the conspiracy, have been arrested from Delhi, Bombay, Poona and some places in the East Punjab. It is learnt that large dumps of ammunition, bombs, hand-grenades, revolvers and chemicals used in the manufacture of explosives have been seized from the houses of arrested persons. Although great secrecy is being maintained about the investigation, it is gathered that some of the arrested persons made a clean breast of the conspiracy which, when revealed, would stun the world.

[Meanwhile, as reported from Karachi,] Within 24 hours of his release on bail, Khanchand Gopaldas, advocate, President of the Karachi Rashtriya Sevak Sangh, was rearrested under the Sind Public Safety Ordinance on Saturday [Feb 7].
