ISLAMABAD: The capital police Safe City e-challan system issued more than 49,000 tickets to motorists over traffic rules violations in around two years.

E-challan tickets were delivered to the violators at their home addresses. A copy of the challan was attached with the master file of the vehicle at the excise office in case of non-payment of the penalty amount.

A police public relations officer (PRO) said the police were utilising all available resources and taking strict measures against traffic rules violators.

He said the capital police had issued more than 49,000 e-challan to motorists over various violations so far.

Capital Police Officer (CPO) Safe City Syed Freed Ali said car owners who were subjected to a fine cannot sell or transfer their vehicle until the clearance of the dues.

The fine amount could be paid through banks, mobile accounts and other digital means. He said there was a significant decline observed in the number of road mishaps and traffic violations after introducing the new challan system.

The move was aimed at getting residents of the capital to abide by traffic laws even in the absence of traffic officers with the use of modern technology, he maintained.

Meanwhile, the Police Khidmat Markaz of Islamabad facilitated citizens with different services like issuance of character certificates, foreigners’ registration, registration of tenants and domestic servants.

“IGP Islamabad Dr Akbar Nasir Khan is taking all possible steps to provide maximum facilities to the citizens, and several steps have been taken by the police in this regard,” the PRO added.

He said since its inception the Police Khidmat Markaz received a total of 18,271 applications for character certificates. He said 18,117 certificates were issued after complete verification by concerned police stations while work on the remaining was under process.

“For citizens’ facility, a police mobile facilitation van service has also been working. Khidmat Markaz in various areas including F-6, G-10/4, H-11, Banigala, Soan Garden, Khanna and at different police stations are also facilitating the citizens,” he said.

“Well-trained staff has been appointed there who are providing best services to the citizens. Such steps would improve the trust of people in the police.”

Similarly, the Eagle Squad of Islamabad police during the last 24 hours checked 10,266 suspicious persons, motorcycles and vehicles.

The Eagle Squad checked 850 pedestrians, 3,280 motorcycles and 2,945 vehicles during special and snap checking out of which 80 suspicious persons were detained and 775 motorcycles and 570 vehicles impounded at various police stations.

It also ensured the arrest of numerous suspects involved in mobile snatching and heinous crimes. The Eagle Squad also removed tinted glasses from 440 vehicles and initiated legal action against 470 vehicles and 850 motorcycles over non-registration and fancy number plates.
