HYDERABAD, Jan 3: The Sindh Unity Council of PONM at a meeting held here on Tuesday criticized the federal government for what it called its aggressive policies towards oppressed nations.

They said the Sindhi, Baloch, Pakhtun and Seraiki nations were against construction of any dam on the Indus river.

PONM Sindh chapter president Dr Qadir Magsi presided over the meeting.

Sindh Hari Committee chairman Azhar Jatoi, STPP leader Hyder Shahani and Hote Khan Gadhi, JUI Sindh president Maulana Aziz Bohio, SNF leader Ayoub Shar and Jeay Sindh Qaumparast Party chairman Qamar Bhatti also attended the meeting.

The meeting pointed out that oppressed nations had rejected constructions of dams at every forum on technical and political grounds as per the international law.

They said the rulers were adamant in going ahead with the Kalabagh dam project and using aggressive language against the Sindhi nation on the issue.

It observed that the attitude of rulers was neither democratic nor enlightened.

It demanded that taking consent from certain people in closed door meeting should be stopped as the people of Sindh have given a unanimous verdict against the construction of Kalabagh dam.

The meeting decided to stage a token hunger strike outside the Hyderabad press club on January 7 in protest against proposed construction of Kalabagh dam and ongoing army operation in Balochistan.

The meeting adopted several resolutions taking strong exception to use of intemperate language by Gen Pervez Musharraf, Shaikh Rashid and Chaudhry Shujaat against oppressed nations on their stand on Kalabagh dam and army operation in Balochistan.

It condemned the army operation against the Baloch nation and expressed solidarity with the Baloch people.

It demanded that the army operation should be stopped forthwith.

It expressed concern over rampant unemployment, hunger and hyper-inflation.

It demanded that the increase in prices of gas and oil should be reduced.

DEMO: A large number of activists of the All Pakistan Clerks Association staged a token hunger strike outside the press club here on Tuesday against the DCO Larkana, Khuda Bux Larik.

Speaking on the occasion, general secretary of the association, Sindh chapter, Ashraf Bozai said wrong and anti-employees policies of the DCO had created unrest among low grade employees of the entire Sindh.

He said that the DCO had ordered arrest of low grade employees and regretted that the Sindh government had taken no notice of volatile situation created by the DCO.

He demanded that the Sindh chief minister and chief secretary should order immediate release of arrested employees and removal of the DCO.

SU: The controller of examinations of the University of Sindh here on Tuesday announced that BA, BSc, BSW and BCom part-II annual examination 2005 and all subjects of MA (final) examination 2005 of regular and external candidates will be conducted from January 5.

Admit cards of candidates have already been provided to concerned affiliated degree colleges.
