PESHAWAR: An anti-terrorism court has convicted a member of a proscribed outfit for possessing explosives and weapons and sentenced him to 14 years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs10,000.

The court ruled that the prosecution had proved its case against the accused, namely Ameen Shah, a resident of Shalobar Qambarkhel area of Khyber district, and the evidence on record connected him with the commission of the offence.

The prosecution claimed that on July 13, 2021, a raiding team of the counter-terrorism department (CTD) had received information about presence of a member of the proscribed Lashkar-i-Islam in Mian Khan Garhi area of Peshawar for the purpose of carrying out an act of terrorism.

It was stated that the raiding team apprehended the accused and recovered a hand grenade and a pistol from his possession.

The prosecution stated that the accused during interrogation pointed out that some explosives and weapons, to be used for terrorism, had been concealed in Tirah valley of Khyber district.

The prosecution claimed the CTD then recovered the concealed items, including three rocket-propelled grenades, two mortar shells, 37 cartons of cartridges of different bore weapons, an RPG fuse and prima cord from there.

The accused was charged under different provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act and the Arms Act.
