LARKANA: SSP Asif Raza on Sunday transferred SHO of the Ali Gohar Abad police station Ghulam Murtaza Gorchani and constituted a team of senior police officers led by DSP Haidri Asadullah Bhatti for an investigation into the murder of Abdul Mannan Shaikh, the manager of a prominent food outlet.

The incident on Thursday had triggered a wave of protest amid panic and fear in Larkana over growing incidents of violent robberies and mugging in the city.

Soon after the latest incident, the Larkana Chamber of Commerce (LCCI) had gone into an emergency session to draw a strategy to launch a protest campaign while Small Traders’ Federation joined hands with it.

The committee of senior police officers comprises SHO of the Market police station Sartaj Jagirani, Mirani Khan Durrani, Abdul Ghafoor Chutto and others.

DSP Haidri told Dawn that police were interrogating certain suspects to reach killers of Mannan Shaikh.

Expressing concern over the deteriorating law and order in Larkana, the LCCI traders’ federation held a joint meeting at the chamber’s office on Sunday and took stock of the situation.

LCCI president Ahmed Ali Shaikh, speaking to Dawn said that law and order situation in the city continued to worsen due to increasing crimes. Businessmen and traders were feeling insecure, he said, and pointed out that after the recent violent incidents the businessmen community launched a protest campaign, wore black armbands and hanged banners at different places in the city to demand security.

“Today’s meeting discussed a variety of issues and decided to hold regular meetings with the district administration and Larkana SSP to ascertain progress on controlling crimes,” he said.

The two bodies agreed to accelerate the campaign and simultaneously table the issues in meetings with the district authorities, he said.
