ISLAMABAD: Drug peddlers set free their accomplice from police custody during a raid at a den for the recovery of narcotics, police said on Thursday.

The Sangjani police arrested a man after recovery of narcotics from his possession on Tuesday, police said, adding that during interrogation he confessed that he along with his other accomplices had sold drugs, including ice, crystal, heroin and charas among students of schools, colleges and universities.

He also disclosed that a huge cache of drugs was present at a house located in Dhoke Abbasi. In response, an eight-member police team reached the house along with the handcuffed drug peddler.

When the police took him to the house and knocked at the door, six men and four women armed with batons and iron rods came out and attacked the team.

The attackers then set their accomplice free from the police custody and took him inside the house and locked it, the police said.

A man armed with a 30-bore pistol threatened the police with dire consequences from inside the locked house, they said, adding the attackers also beat the police and tore their uniform. Over the incident, a case was registered against the drug dealer and his accomplices.
