RAWALPINDI: The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) on Tuesday realigned the route of the electric bus from Raja Bazaar to Koral Chowk via Kutchery Chowk to provide travelling facilities to the people.

Under the new alignment, electric bus route 2 will start from Raja Bazaar and culminate at Koral Chowk via Gawalmandi, Liaquat Bagh, Marrir Hassan, Punjab House, Fatima Jinnah Women University, Kutchery Chowk, Jinnah Park, Jhanda Chichi, Ammar Chowk, Chaklala, Old Airport, Shah Khalid Colony and Gulzar-i-Quaid.

Earlier, the route from Raja Bazaar to Koral Chowk was via Sir Syed Chowk, Rawal Road. However, the people demanded electric bus service from District Courts to Raja Bazaar and Koral Chowk.

It may be mentioned here that the district administration failed to operate electric buses on three routes connecting Kutchery Chowk and The Mall and Peshawar Road after remodelling of Kutchery Chowk.

A senior official of the district administration said that there was shortage of electric buses and at present 45 buses are on seven routes of the garrison city, and their number would be increased to 80 if three routes were opened.

“Instead of opening new routes, the district administration made arrangements to realign the route to cater for the passenger rush for Raja Bazaar and Koral Chowk,” he said.

He said before the start of construction work on the chowk, more than 10 routes had been finalised for e-buses, but the administration opened seven routes due to the construction work on Kutchery Chowk.

He said that after the start of buses on Kutchery Chowk, the people would travel from Rawat T-Chowk to District Courts and from Koral Chowk to Soan Bridge and Motorway as well as Rawalpindi Railway Station, Saddar. He said the people who will come from surrounding areas of the garrison city would easily reach Raja Bazaar and the downtown area without any hurdle.

He said that the road from Koral Chowk and T-Chowk Rawat to Motorway would be signal-free and electric buses would provide better and secure travelling facilities to the residents.
