GUJRATL The Registrar of Joint Stock Companies has formally approved registration of the Gujrat Waste Management Company (GtWMC).

The company is being established since Gujrat has been elevated as the 10th divisional headquarter.

The LG&CD department had conveyed to the Gujrat deputy commissioner on Sept 21 that the Punjab cabinet had approved GtWMC and asked him to take necessary action as the company had to be registered with the concerned department.

DC Amer Shahzad Kang told Dawn that following the approval by the provincial government, the registration process of GtWMC with the joint registrar companies was initiated forthwith and now the registration had been done.

He said a board of governors and chairman of the company might also be nominated whereas rest of the administrative and field staff would be recruited as per the standard operating procedures SOPs whereas the procurement of equipment and machinery would also be done.

He said that with the establishment of waste management company, the city’s cleanliness could be done properly as shortage of staff and required machinery would no longer be the issue.

It is learnt that the staff and machinery of sanitation branch of the Gujrat Municipal Corporation may also be handed over to the GtWMC prior to the start of company’s functioning whereas the Punjab government will provide funds for the purchase of new machinery. Meanwhile, the parks and horticulture authority (PHA) may also be established in Gujrat for which the local administration has sent a summary for approval by the competent authority.
