PESHAWAR: The Burns and Plastic Surgery Centre, Hayatabad Medical Complex, has decided to impart clinical training to the students pursuing degrees in different branches of medical sciences at Khyber Medical University.

Prof Tahmeedullah, the director of Burns and Plastic Surgery Centre, signed a memorandum of understanding with KMU Vice-chancellor Prof Ziaul Haq to provide training opportunities to the students of Doctor of Physical Therapy, BS Occupational Therapy, Surgical Technology, Emergency Care Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Anesthesia Technology and Nursing, said a press release.

HMC medical director Prof Shahzad Akbar Khan was also present on the occasion.

Prof Zia said that KMU was determined to introduce a multi-dimensional comprehensive healthcare approach, encompassing all the four elements of health including prevention, promotion, curative intervention and rehabilitation based on evidence, focusing on the production of quality medics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

According to the MoU, Burns and Plastic Surgery Centre will be the owner of the building, equipment and employers of skilled staff, which include doctors, trainers, paramedics and others required for the facilitation of clinical training of the students whereas KMU will admit and register the students in various programmes.

In order to keep the standard of quality of training, KMU will deploy the required students according to the number of faculty and infrastructure of the hospital.

The maximum duration of the MoU will be 10 years, extendable further on mutual consent of both the parties. The duration of a clinical training programme for the students will be according to the prescribed curriculum and syllabus and credit hours.

If the number of students increases than the capacity of the hospital, the parties will develop the second shift system with consensus for the smooth running of the training programmes.

The centre will provide a conducive environment to the students for the clinical as well as basic science training programmes during the agreed schedule.
