KARACHI: The Sindh United Party (SUP) on Monday demanded dissolution of the Sindh Assembly over what it termed failure of the provincial government to protect citizens and crops from floods.

Speaking at a news conference at Karachi Press Club, SUP president Syed Zain Shah also called for expulsion of the ‘illegal’ Afghan migrants.

He apprehended that the proposed construction of Malir Expressway by encroaching Malir Nadi (river) might lead to inundation in Karachi in future.

Reading out the contents of his letter written to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the SUP leader said that no one knew better than the people of Sindh about the miseries caused by unprecedented floods in their areas where millions of people were suffering from hunger after losing their livelihood.

Accompanied by Aijaz Samtio, Jagdish Ahuja, Khawaja Naveed, Asadullah Shah and other leaders, he observed that it was very disappointing to note that the provincial government had miserably failed to rescue people, protect their properties and provide relief to flood victims. Till date, there was no methodology announced by the government of Sindh for future, he added.

“In this devastating situation, the Sindh United Party believes that Sindh has drowned in floodwaters due to incompetence, corruption and mismanagement of the provincial government. The people of a rich province are living helplessly as nomads within their motherland,” said Zain Shah.

The SUP chief demanded immediate dissolution of the provincial assembly “on high moral grounds” and formation of a caretaker set-up comprising honest, efficient and meritorious persons in the larger interest of the people of Sindh”.
